Industry skills leadership
ITOs play a key role in helping their industries tackle the skills issues they are facing. They are tasked with the job of working with their industries for identifying the current and future skill needs of their workforce.
These activities are known collectively as 'industry skills leadership'. This is more than developing qualifications and arranging training; it is working to ensure that the full range of skills issues facing an industry or sector are identified and addressed.

- Competitive Manufacturing Initiative - a consortium of ITOs working to improve the competitiveness of New Zealand manufacturing
