22 December 2011: The Ministry publishes releases this report looking at industry training systems in other countries. It provides information on government-subsidised industry training systems in: Australia, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, France, Germany, British Columbia and Norway.
19 December 2011: The Industry Training Federation provides this submission to the Ministry of Education on the Discussion Document.
22 November 2011: The Ministry publishes an online survey for employers to provide the opportunity for all employers to provide input into the Review of Industry Training. Update: The survey closed on 16 December 2011. The Ministry received 962 individual employer responses to the survey. Of the responses to the survey, 79% (756) were from employers covered by an industry training organisation.
18 November 2011: The Ministry of Education releases this discussion document which outlines options for the broad roles in the industry training system. It is a key document for the industry training review and the seeks submissions by 19 December 2011. Update: The Ministry received 90 submissions from individuals and employers.
November 2011: The Ministry of Education begins in-depth interviews with 20 employers about industry training in New Zealand. The employers that the Ministry will be conducting in-depth interviews with were identified by Business New Zealand.
20 September 2011: The Ministry of Education publishes this history of the industry training sector in New Zealand.
September 2011: The Industry Training Federation has developed a list of eight key points which it believes needs to guide the Review of Industry Training.
28 July 2011: The Minister for Tertiary Education Hon Steven Joyce talks about the review in his speech to the Industry Training Federation Annual Conference. The Ministry of Education releases the terms of reference for the review of industry training. The review is due for completion in 2012. It will provide a re-examination of the industry training system in New Zealand, including the operation of Modern Apprenticeships.

The ITF expects the Ministry of Education to analyse and publish the findings from the employers survey and the in-depth interviews, both conducted over November/December 2011, in early 2012.
The ITF will meet with the Ministry in early January to discuss the Ministry's approach to analysing the findings from the employer survey and in-depth interviews.
