Everyone seems to be talking about skills these days.

On these pages we hope to share some of the reasons why skills are important, and what can and is being done to address skills issues.

The challenge is significant - there is work to be done in:

• making better use  of skills to lift productivity

• better understanding and defining what skills we need, and

• better linking the development of skills with how we use them

To do all of this, we need to keep working to better understand our labour market, and the particular challenges that New Zealand industry, employers and workers face.
